Women of Webster Five: Sonia

Webster Five is celebrating Women’s History Month by highlighting some of the incredible women who make up our bank! This week’s spotlight is Sonia at our Chandler St., Worcester Branch.

How did you first get into the banking/finance industry?

My friend, who I worked alongside with, left the retail world and went into banking. She kept telling me to join her and would tell me how much better the hours were. At the time, my son was a toddler, so the hours alone sold me! Six years later, I haven’t left.

Why did you choose Webster Five?

After an unfortunate branch closing in my previous Financial Institution, I wanted to stay in banking and continue my banking career, but this time around it had to work with my Mom life! Webster Five allows me to still be a working Mom and not miss out.

Why do you choose to stay in your field?

The banking industry has many opportunities to continue to grow within your career. It’s not subject to just the title you hold.

What advice would you give to women looking to grow in their career or break into their desired field?

Set yourself up with clear goals, advocate for yourself and take risks! No matter what position or title you carry, there’s always something new to learn!
