Women of Webster Five: Samaris
13 March 2024
Webster Five is celebrating Women’s History Month by highlighting some of the incredible women who make up our bank! This week’s spotlight is Samaris at our Thompson Rd., Webster branch.
How did you first get into the banking/finance industry?
Back when I finished high school, I was working at CVS as a Photo Technician (which was a cool job for an 18-year-old), but I realized “I was ready for a career!” First thing that came to mind was Banking. I always felt they were important people (which I can confirm, we are!). I felt Banking was a professional and respected career, plus it gave me a reason to go shopping!
Why did you choose Webster Five?
I chose Webster Five because it’s a community bank. Quite honestly, I can’t remember why else originally since we’re talking 20 years ago….keep reading, I’ll explain. I was originally hired at the “Park Ave,” which later moved to become the Chandler St. Branch, back in August of 2002 as a teller. I worked my way up and had the privilege of working at all the branches (that’s how I met my bestie). After working for nine and half years, I became a mom (now of three) and stayed home with them.
Why do you choose to stay in your field?
Nine years have gone by of being a stay-at-home mom, so you can only imagine I was ready to go back to work! I love my babies, but this momma “needed a break.”
I was rehired back in January of 2022 and received the great news on New Year’s Eve. What a great way to start the New Year! The Thompson Rd, Webster branch became my home, and after two years, I’ve become a Relationship Banker II and then, by Dec of 2023, a Relationship Banker III. I’m also fortunate to serve on the United Way Committee, which allows me to give back to my community. I chose to come back to Webster Five because it’s where I always felt comfortable and welcomed. I enjoy building relationships with my customers and helping them with their financial goals/needs.
“It’s great to be back!”
What advice would you give to women looking to grow in their career or break into their desired field?
Make sure to love what you do! If you don’t feel joy or enjoy what you do, it might not be for you.
